We take scripture too seriously to limit its possibilities to literal interpretation. The Bible is a collection of diverse ancient texts expressing God's dynamic loving relationship with creation. As Christians, this is our sacred story. When we open scripture, we step into a conversation that has been going on for thousands of years. "God is still speaking" through scripture and through our dialogue with it.
Faith evolves over a lifetime and changes as circumstances of life change. Our Christian Education ministry includes people of all ages--from two year olds and up. We invite you to bring your brain, your questions, your life experience, and see what God's Spirit is doing in this place!

Church School at First Congregational UCC
From September to May, we offer classes for two year olds through senior high youth on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15am. We begin our time together in Jones Fellowship Hall for an opening and then move to individual classrooms at 9:30am.
The Senior High youth (9th-12th grades) meet on Sunday mornings for informal discussions about interesting topics from the Bible. They also come together to work on mission work and have fun socializing.
Confirmation (7th-8th grades) meets on Sunday mornings to learn about a whole range of topics around church life, faith, and scripture. The class is taught by Rev. Ryan Otto.
Confirmation is an opportunity for maturing young people to speak for themselves and claim the Christian faith as their own. At First Congregational UCC, we practice infant baptism (although we do not refuse adult baptisms). It is a time in which parents or sponsors act in faith on behalf of their child. At Confirmation, one confirms the faith she was baptized into before she could claim it for herself. Our Confirmation program is two years long (7th-8th grades).
Once confirmed, our confirmands do not claim to have it all figured out, but have affirmed that they wish to be part of a lifelong journey of faith. Confirmation is also an act of the wider congregation, which affirms they will offer their presence and support along a journey filled with questions, uncertainty, and change.
